It’s the most wonderful time of the year and Matt and I are back with a festive Purple Stuff Podcast episode for you.

Currently, I’d imagine you’re immersed in holiday shopping, getting stuck in copious amounts of traffic, and getting tanked on some kind of Christmasy concoction. As I write this, I’m super behind with my own holiday celebration. My tree is up, but it’s still not trimmed. I’ve only watched Christmas Vacation and Scrooged so far, but I have a pile of Christmas DVDs that I still want to get to before December ends. I’m also hoping my mom or Miss Sexy Armpit makes me my favorite Christmas cookies. Beyond those traditions, the one thing I never fail to keep up with is my Holiday playlist.

Since I have a long commute for work, I get to enjoy the giant Holiday playlist that I’ve created over the years in my iPhone. Listening to these songs everyday through the end of November and all of December made it easy for me to bring some more playlist ideas to you in the latest edition of The Purple Stuff Podcast.

This is our 2nd Christmas songs podcast. If you haven’t heard our previous one, it’s episode 17 in our feed. I know some people are not big fans of Christmas music, but it’s incredibly nostalgic for the both of us and it remains a big part of our seasonal celebrations. So, in this episode, Matt and I offer up some Christmas song suggestions for you. These tracks range from traditional to obscure, but they’re all worth a few minutes of discussion. Whether it’s Whitney Houston or The Whirling Dervishes, we’re delivering an hour of audio cheer.

If you’re not already subscribed, it would be awesome if you did! If you like listening to us, one of the easiest way to support us is to leave us a positive review on iTunes! Thanks for listening and we hope you have an awesome holiday season!

Let me take a second to measure the Halloween vibe. There’s pumpkin products a plenty at the grocery store. We’ve got the new Blair Witch movie on the way. Unfortunately, it’s still hitting 90 degrees around here, so we here in the tri-state area have a little bit longer to wait for the true Autumn feel to come over us. Meanwhile, as the Halloween season starts to take shape, Matt and I are back with a NEW episode of The Purple Stuff Podcast for you!

In this episode, we bring you another set of Spooky Songs! This is a subject we adore as indicated by the fact that this is already the 3rd volume of songs that we’ve compiled! Next thing you know you’ll be able to pick one of our CD compilations up at the checkout counter at the nearest Hallmark store! You can have this one without even venturing outside though. Join us as we discuss the finer points of songs from The Lost Boys soundtrack and the Nightmare on Elm Street Franchise, among many others! As usual, you can get the show on iTunes, Stitcher, and Podbean. Please subscribe and if you enjoy the show, leave us some good feedback! Thanks for listening and reading!

Who The F*ck Is Tommy London? The Dirty Pearls Frontman Talks With The Sexy Armpit!

The Sexy Armpit has always been a little bit comic book geek, a little bit rock and roll. Through over a decade on the Internet, one of the staples featured on the site has been the reigning kings of New York City’s rock scene, The Dirty Pearls. They’ve amassed a monstrous, loyal fan base, tour the country, and even show up at swank clubs to sing and play with the rest of their NYC crew known as The Rivington Rebels, whose legend precedes them. Am I jealous that there’s no Route 9 Rebels? No, because I just invented it, and I’m Master of Ceremonies of the New Jersey Chapter, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to score this interview! Just ahead of their upcoming tour and forthcoming new album, our friend and lead singer of The Dirty Pearls, Tommy London, took some time out of his busy schedule to answer some of those classic “Jay” questions that I always have.

Has it been as much of a challenge for you to get into the Christmas spirit this year as it has been for me? Personally, I hadn’t been feeling very festive this season, but I did have a few surges of Christmas cheer so far this month. You may have already read about our trip to Holiday in the Park at Six Flags Great Adventure, but the other night my heart may have grew three sizes when Matt and I recorded our latest Christmas episode of The Purple Stuff Podcast! We couldn’t go the whole month of December without doing a Christmas special. If you’ve already been immersed in multiple viewings of Christmas Vacation, submerged in spiked egg nog, and dragging ass to stores shopping for gifts, then it’s obvious you don’t need a lot of coercion getting into the Christmas spirit, but you’ll enjoy this nonetheless!

Episode 17 features us discussing some of our favorite Christmas tunes. Since music is one of the big things that conjures up memories and helps to create the ambiance in everyday life during the holidays, we’re hoping this podcast can be a companion to your lead up to the big day. Holiday music in general is a very divisive genre, but it’s something that, as many of you know, Matt and I are heavily into. We had fun with the Halloween music episodes we recorded this year, and the same goes for this one. In fact, we’re going to send the podcast file to the North Pole so Santa can listen to it through his earbuds while dropping off gifts around the Tri-State Area.

If you’ve already seen The Force Awakens and you’re at home this evening looking to relax, let us invade your speakers for a short exploration of old Christmas songs. You’re all set if you’re home smells like a Christmas tree and you have a plate full of sugar cookies on your coffee table. The only thing better would be if you broke out your red footed pajamas. Come to think of it, I may have to run out to the store right now and get some egg nog of my own to enjoy.

Some of our picks may not be crowd pleasers, but these are the ones that are some highlights from our personal playlists. We can probably do 7 more episodes just on this subject, but we had to rein it in to keep within a reasonable time frame. It’s not a surprise that we concentrated on the late ’70s and ’80s era, but there were so many good Christmas songs to come out then! If you happen to have some favorite Christmas songs of your own, let us know in the comments! I am always adding to my playlist, so the more obscure the suggestion, the better!

Thank you for listening and reading and Happy Holidays!

To reference Ice Cube, today was a good day. Fall is officially in session and the temperature here in New Jersey has dropped from the mid-80s last week down to maybe 12 degrees today. Of course I’m exaggerating slightly, but the cool air is so comforting. I am not one for the heat and I’ve been waiting for it to get cooler outside so I can crack open the windows, hear the crickets in the background, and actually believe that it’s Halloween time. Trust me, roasting in 90 degree temperatures is not a way to celebrate the spookiest of seasons. It’s almost as if Halloween time arrived overnight here in Jersey, completely out of nowhere, like Santa Claus coming down the chimney last night. Before you start listening to this week’s episode of The Purple Stuff Podcast, let me update you on a few things.

Several weeks back, Matt broke the news that Burger King was going to start selling HALLOWEEN MOTHA’F*CKIN’ WHOPPERS! We discussed it on the podcast and ever since I’ve been waiting with extreme antici…pation. I’m a lifelong BK fan from an early age, and although they didn’t have the enticing playground and Officer Big Mac Jail Cell that scarred me for life, my Dad and I frequently got Whoppers at Burger King and those are some of the greatest, simplest memories of my childhood. Sitting there eating junk and bullshitting about toys and whatever else I thought was intellectual when I was 5 years old to my Dad who was always genuinely interested in what I was saying.

Earlier today, after several hours of editing a piece of the Halloween special, (that ultimately will only amount to about 35 seconds in the final cut) I decided to venture out to run a few errands. I’m a man of efficiency, so I decided to stop at the store that was near one of our BK’s. To my surprise, I spotted the poster in the window from about a half mile away. I can’t see that last line of a vision test, but sure as shit can see a Halloween hamburger poster from triple the distance. I’m going to leave the detailed review to Dino Drac, but I must say, the A1 steak sauce in the bun gives the entire burger an extra tang that it didn’t have. I wouldn’t say that I like it better than the original Whopper, but I would definitely eat them if they came around each year. Plus, the crown of bones is pretty friggin’ great. Thanks to Matt for bringing this to our attention!

In other news, I’ve promised to have a production blog posted, and unfortunately that hasn’t happened yet. The reason for this is because the production of the Halloween Special 2015 has sucked up every second of my personal life, hence leaving me very little time to write posts. I am going to be relaying my thoughts on this special and the process of making it very soon. It feels like I can’t write about it until it’s nearly completed because I might jinx it. That’s just superstition though.

To cap off an awesome day, grab yourself some pumpkin anything, a cold beverage, and join Matt and I for tonight’s episode of The Purple Stuff Podcast! This week we get into one of my favorite subjects: music! We count down some of our favorite Spooky Songs and try to formulate the type of playlist you would hear at a Halloween Party, but a party that only lasts about 45 minutes. We’d also like to hear your favorite Spooky Songs so tell us about them in the comments or on Twitter! Appropriately, we also premiere our cool new theme song from our friends Leopardactyl! Thanks so much to them for making it and thanks to all of you for listening!
